Commercial Security Systems - What Risk Level is Your Business?

Grade 2 - Low Risk:

A Grade 2 system is rated as low risk. This would cover a business that doesn’t carry a lot of stock or equipment of significant value. Typical sites for a Grade 2 alarm are households and low risk commercial properties.

Grade 3 - Medium Risk:

A Grade 3 system would cover a business’ of medium risk. These are the sorts of places we would expect intruders to have planned an attack, with an arsenal of tools at their disposal. These tend to be high value commercial properties who carry a lot of stock and/or have significant value in equipment and machinery.

Grade 4 - High Risk:

Grade 4 systems are the highest risk properties. Places such as banks and art galleries are an example of something that would need a Grade 4 system. The reason these need to be protected so thoroughly is that any person targeting a property of this value is likely to be highly sophisticated in their methods. Also premises that carry medical supplies, medicine and/or chemicals can benefit from a Grade 4 system.

Commercial Intruder Alarms

An intruder alarm should be number one on the list of security measures when operating a business premises. Making sure you have a visual and audible deterrent is the best way to minimise the risk of a break in. Intruder Alarms for business’ are often graded. This is a way of your insurance company judging how susceptive your premises is to a break in.

Commercial Monitored Alarms

Any system that is Grade 3 or above would likely need to be monitored. A monitored system sends a signal when it is triggered that connects to an Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) via the telephone line or cellular network. You can also have dual path monitoring solutions, for an extra layer of security. There are two different types of monitoring that are listed below:

Police Monitoring

Police Monitoring is connecting your alarm system so that it can notify the police in the event of a break in. The way this works is the system is first connected to an ARC (Alarm Receiving Centre). This is the first line of call to assess whether this is a genuine break in attempt or a false alarm. In the scenario where two or more detectors are triggered, this is called a confirmed alarm. In the event that a confirmed alarm is received, the ARC will then contact the relevant authorities who will attend site and attempt to stop the break in.

If you are interested in a Police Monitored system, then we recommend an engineer visit. This is a niche product that is specific to each individual business and property. Please also note that any system that is police monitored is also required to have bi-annual maintenance check ups on the system.

Self Monitoring

Self monitoring is another great method of protecting your business. This can be useful for smaller business owners who don’t want to ongoing cost of a police monitored system. A smartphone app would be installed on staff members phones to alert them if there is a break in. The mobile app can be installed on as many staff devices as needed, and should a confirmed alarm be received, you can then contact the police to alert them to an emergency at your premises.

I needed a door contact re attaching, so I phoned Nova on the Friday afternoon, and they came out on the Monday and sorted everything out perfectly.Couldn't ask for a better and speedier service.Proper friendly too, everyone I spoke with. And they saved me a lot of money rather than going through the company who originally installed it, who wanted more than twice the price just to come out.Would definitely use again!
